Happy Birthday Your Majesty… but you will have to wait for your cake !

Queen Elizabeth turns 85 years young today as she celebrates the first of her two birthdays (the official one is in June. It was Edward VII who started an official day to celebrate the Monarchs birthday because his birthday was November and the bad weather put a dampener on his celebrations)

But Her Majesty will have to wait until Sunday to enjoy the “family birthday cake” because it is a Chocolate Cake. (no not the famous Chocolate Biscuit Cake William has chosen for his wedding, this one is a family recipe dating back to Queen Victoria) The problem is though, every year The Queen gives up chocolate for Lent. You can be sure she will be enjoying a huge slice at the afternoon tea table though on Easter Sunday.
